The Costa Rica Department of Immigration is a crucial component of the Costa Rican government since it is responsible for the enforcement and processing of the Costa Rican Immigration Laws. Anybody who has visited the Department of Immigration can attest to the extensive lines of people and long hours to get any immigration process completed. According to the budget the Department of Immigration receives around US$22.5 million in revenue leaving a shortfall of around $16.2 million dollars which the government then borrows in the form of bonds to make up the difference.
