New Telephone Numbering System starts on March 20, 2008
The Costa Rican telephone provider (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) will implement an eight (8) digit telephone system to modify the current seven (7) digit system. The implmentation of the eight digit systme starts on Thursday March 20, 2008.
Starting on this date you must add a number “2” for all land based telephone lines. For cellular phones you must add number “8” before the current number.
The telephone company has undertaken this change to keep up with future demand for services and to incorporate new technologies not available with the current system.
