Costa Rica held Municipal elections which elected the mayor’s and the local council seats for the 81 municipalities of Costa Rica. The clear trend is the return of the 2 party system of Liberacion Nacional and Social Christian Party (PUSC). The good news is that the rate of abstention dropped from 72.1% in 2010 to 59.8% in 2016. The officials elected will serve for the term of 2016-2020
