Rafting on the Sarapiqui River

One of the most memorable experiences I have had in Costa Rica was rafting the Sarapiqui River.  Our extended family decided that we needed some adventure and rafting was the way to do it.  We chose the Sarapiqui River of Costa Rica because we live in the central valley in San Jose and it was possible to do it as a day trop.  It was about a 2 hour drive from the capital city of San Jose to the launch point for the Aguas Bravas raft company near La Virgen de Sarapiqui.   From their base they loaded us up on a bus and drove us about 15 kilometers up stream to the raft launch point.    There were six of us in the raft along with the raft guide Jose, who is passionate about the Sarapiqui River.   During the Costa Rican summer Jan-April the rivers moves a lot slower since the amount of rainfall is reduced during this time frame.   This actually makes it ideal to take elder adults and children.  We had a 12 year old and an 80 year old on our raft and all had a great and enjoyable time on the raft.  The rafting trip takes about 2 hours and includes a rest stop where you can swim in the clear waters of the Sarapiqui River.  If you are looking for adventure rafting is a fun way to get the adrenaline going.
