Registering Internet Domain Names in Costa Rica.

 Costa Rica has its own domain registry under the .CR domain extension which is administered by the Costa Rican Department of Science and Technology via NIC.CR  (www.nic.cr)

Any individual or corporate entity may apply for a Costa Rican domain extension but you will find that the registration fees are expensive compared to .com domain name extensions.   The fee runs $80 per year.

In addition to the .cr extension the following extensions are also available.

.co.cr is a commercial name extension

.or.cr is for organizations or volunteer associations.

.fi.cr  is for financial organizations that are authorized by the Financial Regulatory Agency.

.ac.cr is for the academic sector.

.go.cr is for the Costa Rican government sector

.ed.cr is educational centers and schools that have been authorized by the Ministry of Education.

.sa.cr  is for the health care sector
