The recruiting ad indicates that that the base salary for a police officer is 276,000 Colones which is $559 per month at current exchange rates. To the base salary there are other incentives added which could bring the salary up to 421,000 Colones which is $854 dollars.
With annual salaries that range from $6,000 to $11,000 per year the salary of a Costa Rican police officer is low compared to their counterparts in the United States where the median is around $60,000 per year.
