In Costa Rica the agency that is in charge of domain name registration is the National Academy of Sciences (Academia Nacional de Ciencias). The agency is the top level domain administrator for the .CR domain extension.
In addition you have the following second and third level domain name extensions which may be used in Costa Rica: .co.cr, ed.cr, ac.cr, or.cr, fi.cr, .sa.cr
To reserve your Costa Rica domain name go to the website of the National Academy of Sciences which is www.nic.cr
The fees for the domain are as follows: Domains of Third-level .co.cr, .fi.cr, .or.cr, .ac.cr, .ed.cr,.sa.cr are $25 per year / $45 for 2 years / $110 for 5 years.
The .CR domain on the other hand is $80 per year. $155 for 2 years or $370 for 5 years.

ONLY submit documentation if the name is a registered trademark or some protection in the Intellectual Property laws. In these cases, if the applicant is a legal person, the documentation to be submitted is:
• Letter from the legal representative of the applicant requesting the domain name
• Original certificate of the company requesting the name with no more than 1 month issued.
• Photocopy of identity card of legal representative
• Affidavit that he is the owner of the mark or has obtained permission from the owner of the mark for registration.
If the applicant is an individual, the documentation to be submitted is as follows:
• Letter from person requesting the domain name
• Photocopy of the applicant’s identity card. .
• Affidavit that he is the owner of the mark or has obtained permission from the owner of the mark for registration.
Third-level domains
.ac.cr
ONLY allowed for public institutions or at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. In these cases the documents to be presented are:
• Copy of decree law that created (state universities) or copy of the recognition of CONESUP (private universities).
• Original of the legal status of the institution with no more than 1 month issued.
• Letter of the legal representative of the applicant name requesting domain.
• Photocopy of the applicant’s identity card.

• Certification from the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Costa Rica, where the official recognition of studies, diplomas delivered by the institution and director of the Office.
• Letter from the Director requesting the domain.
• Photocopy of an identity card of the Director.
.fi.cr
ONLY allowed for financial institutions at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. In this case, the documentation to be presented is the following:
• Letter of the legal representative of who requests the name requesting domain.
• Original certificate of the company requesting the name with no more than 1 month issued.
• Photocopy of an identity card of the legal representative.

Submit documentation ALL governmental entities which recorded under this category. The documents to be presented are:
• Letter of the Minister, Deputy Minister, or maximum hierarch of the institution requesting the domain.
• Original of the legal personality of the entity with no more than 1 month of emitted.
• Photocopy of an identity card of the Minister, Deputy Minister, or maximum hierarch.

ONLY submits documentation at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. In this case, the documentation to be presented is the following:
• Letter of the legal representative of who asked for the name requesting domain.
• Original certificate of the company requesting the name with no more than 1 month issued.
• Photocopy of an identity card of the legal representative.
.sa.cr
ONLY submit documentation public health centers or at the request of NIC-Internet Costa Rica. The documents to be presented are:
• Certification of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund or Ministry of Health and recognizes the center or health institution and Director of the Office.
• Letter from the Director requesting the domain.
• Photocopy of an identity card of the Director.
